Welcome to From The Desk Of… our weekly series on LinkedIn and Instagram where we spotlight cool women in the Girlboss community doing cool sh*t. This week, we’re spotlighting Asha Dahya, an Emmy-nominated filmmaker, producer, writer and mother. With nearly two decades in media and entertainment, Dahya has racked up a couple award-winning short documentaries and podcast series. Today, she’s mostly involved in development, creation, writing, production and marketing of all the projects she’s working on (she truly does it all! 👏). 🤭 What’s one thing you’re working on right now that you’re excited to share? I am working on a short documentary about Meg Crane - she invented the home pregnancy test, but was never paid a cent! Her story has largely gone untold and unnoticed, and I am thrilled to bring this important founder story to the world. The film is called A TINY REVOLUTION and will be finished by the end of 2025. ⏰ What’s your best productivity hack or tool? Get quiet, find space and time to hear yourself think and breathe, and tap into your intuition. This hack has helped me be more productive and prioritize the numerous tasks I have on my plate every day. I have really come to appreciate and understand the power of getting still and silent whenever I can. 🎉 What’s a career win you had recently? My podcast series GREEN TIDE RISING, an 8-part series spotlighting Latin America's Green Wave abortion rights movement and what the U.S. can learn from it, just won a TELLY award, and was also nominated for a Webby and a One World Media award in the UK! 🚧 What are your biggest career roadblocks? My imposter syndrome, my bad habit of playing comparison, overloading myself with TOO many tasks because I feel like I constantly have to prove myself to the world by doing more than I can actually handle (anyone relate?!). 🎤 Best advice you’ve ever received? And the worst? Best: My producing mentor Laverne McKinnon, who writes and coaches around the idea of "career grief", recently talked about the idea of feeling like you have failed when you have put EVERYTHING into an idea, and did not get the return or result you hoped for. Instead of looking at this as a failure, Laverne beautifully articulated how this is an opportunity to refocus and reassess. It’s a reminder that taking more time to prepare that project will always be a good thing, and taking short cuts to rush it will always end up undermining my goals. Worst: Anything I read about "hustle culture" turns me off, and frankly makes me angry. We are not meant to operate this way! Let's be kind and compassionate to ourselves and each other. We do not have to constantly compete with everyone to get ahead in life. Want to be featured next? Let this sink in: You’ve got half a year left to design a work-life that matches your values. Work shouldn’t feel like something you just tolerate. It should feel like an extension of your real life—not a performance. Tori Lazar gets it. Her course, Design The Next Chapter of Your Career, is designed for anyone who’s ready to stop going through the motions and start moving with intention. 💫 Take back the second half of your year—with the help of someone who’s been there: https://lnkd.in/gRq6kZP2

Welcome to From the Desk Of… our new weekly series where we spotlight cool women in the Girlboss community doing cool sh*t. Whether you’re a corporate 9-5 girlie, a full-time entrepreneur, a gig worker, a freelancer, a multihyphenate, or something in between—every voice and professional journey is welcome and deserves to be heard. This week, meet Sara Koonar! President and Founder of Platform Media & Management Inc. ⏰ What’s your best productivity hack or tool? “I limit meetings to Tuesdays and Thursdays. That ensures that I have ample time in my week to get things done and that I’m not stuck in back-to-back calls.” 📚 Favorite career podcast, book, or website? “I'm reading Traction, by Gino Wickman, right now, and it's helped me and my team improve our operations and how we work together.” 🎉 What’s a career win you had recently? “Our talent roster at Platform just exceeded 80 content creators. Means so much that these inspiring and talented creators have trusted us with their businesses.” 🚧 What are your biggest career roadblocks? “Myself. Anytime I've missed an opportunity or didn't take a risk it was because I wasn't feeling confident or succumbed to fear. I am trying to be better at recognizing when I have those limiting beliefs and pushing through them. Because there is really nothing we are incapable of.” ⚖️ Do you believe in work-life balance? Why or why not? “As a new mom, I know that the days I am fully focused on work, I'm not going to be the best mom. And the days I am fully focused on my child, I'm not going to be the best leader. I've done away with the notion that I can give everything 100% at once. So instead, I have tried to set boundaries and have built an amazing support system—so I can do both and know the other is taken care of.” 🎀 What does the word “girlboss” mean to you? Regardless of gender, for me, it means breaking barriers, empowerment and fostering environments where everyone can thrive and contribute their best. If you want to connect with Sara, send her a note and tell her that Girlboss sent you. When women support women, incredible things can happen! 🤍 Want to be featured next? The work doesn't end in June. 🏳️🌈 We asked Sarah Saska, PhD, co-founder and CEO of Feminuity, what real support looks like for LGBTQ+ employees right now ⤵️ With DEI rollbacks, anti-trans laws, and rising backlash, many LGBTQ+ folks are feeling less safe at work than they did five years ago. Real allyship goes beyond rainbows and slogans. It’s about systems, policies, and showing up even when it’s hard. Ask yourself: ✨ Who gets to be safe here? ✨ Are we protecting visibility AND safety? ✨ Are our actions as loud as our words? "Pride isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being present, accountable, and brave enough to keep showing up long after June ends.”

Have we maybe gone too far with oversharing at work? According to Business Insider, Gen Z has an oversharing problem—and it’s changing workplace culture (for the worse). Nothing is off-limits for them, like yapping (loudly) about their sex lives, sharing unhinged opinions about their coworkers ("they’re an emotional vampire"), and even taking off their bra in the office (yes, really!). Sure, we’ve all heard the phrase “bring your whole self to work.” But… maybe not your entire self? 🧠 According to workplace communication expert Carla Bevins, there’s a fine line between being authentic and being unfiltered. One builds trust. The other? Risks your reputation. Keep reading to learn how to strike the right balance between personal and professional 🤝 https://lnkd.in/gF8x_j9w
